Custom Wolverine & Iron Man Mark 02
Wolverine:
Finally I got to finish the Wolverine custom that I had previously attempted. This time around I swapped the claws with packing needles instead of bobby pins. I'm happy with how it turned out. I won't deny that this could have been even better in the hands of a professional customizer. But I'll let you decide if I made a decent job out of it.
Iron Man Mark 02:This figure is from the Iron Man Movie line by Hasbro. In all honesty I HATED the figure. I only got it because I already had Mark 01 and 03 in my collection. I'm sure you've all seen the figure on the shelves before or maybe even own one. All that grey color was just bad and to top it off we had two shades of grey. One ugly grey and another more silverish/grey. Luckily I wanted to practice my painting skills so I had it hand painted.
This was suppose to be Iron Man with the sky in the background. Wouldn't you know it, not a single cloud when I took this pic. LoL.Monday, July 20, 2009
Reminiscing the 'Civil War'
I've been reading Marvel's Civil War again. It's just one of those random days that I decided to read a 7 issue comic with some ridiculous 80+ tie-ins. But I just read the main books. Its much more sensible. For those unfamiliar with the events in the Civil War, here's the main story:'A superhuman 'exploded' in a small town killing a few hundred people. To make matters worse, this included a school full of little children. The U.S. government decided to take action and pass the bill on the Superhuman Registration Act. This Act states that all superhumans must register their identities and work for the government.
On one corner, in support of the new Act is Iron Man. Opposing on the other corner you have Captain America...'
I highly recommend you pick up a copy of this series. Though it came out in 2006-2007 I'm sure you'll find a way of 'picking' up a copy (Kal El: Back away slowly and deny everything!). Overall , the storyline is similar to what have been written over the years but this has a certain twist because those who register with the government are actually recruited into the system. I must warn you though, if you're planning to read the WHOLE thing you will encounter repetitive storyline as the tie-ins shows the story from other character's point of view of the same thing. Otherwise you're in for a treat for some excellent writing, discussion of political views and huge superhero battles.

Iron Man Movie Series: Stealth Operations Suit a.k.a. War MachineI picked up these two today at Target. Something to add to my current Iron Man Movie & Concept Series collection. I really like the Stealth Striker Armor. The sculpt is different from the Movie Series and it has a detachable jet backpack(huh? he needs one of those?).
The Stealth Operations suit is a repaint(and a mess of job at that) of the Movie series and on the back of the box it mentions that it is being used by Jim Rhodes. So technically it makes it War Machine. Price for both of these? AUD 6 each.

Iron Man/Hulk Collector's Edition DVD
I bought this a few weeks ago. A collector's edition Iron Man & The Incredible Hulk DVD. It came with a small comic book. Worth it? It all depends if you're a major DVD collector. Cheaper than getting it individually? Yes. The main highlight for me was the box/book-like packaging that it came with.
I wasn't expecting much from the Hulk DVD because the only ones available in the shops is single-disc. But with Iron Man there is also the Ultimate Two-Disc which I was half expecting came with this C.E. Ah well, you can't have it all right. It is nonetheless a nice addition to the DVD shelves.

A.R.Ms # 26: Iron Man, Mark III, 12" Repulsor Blast
I remember I saw a lot of this figure in Kiulap before I left for Canberra last year. I didn't give it much thought about buying it back then. I'm not a real fan of 12" figures but I couldn't pass up the opportunity when it was on sale. If I had the option of choosing a 12" Iron Man it would definitely be from Hot Toys. Those are super sweet!
Well this is not from Hot Toys but it'll do for now.

PackagingThe packaging is standard, big and bulky with a clear plastic in the front. This even had a hole so that you can press the button for the sounds.

Detail/SculptEven back then when it came out I noticed there wasn't much in terms of articulation for this figure. The paint work looked decent enough. Usually, I would have a problem with glossy paint on an action figure. After seeing the movie, this was a must for this figure.
At first I thought the sound effects were kinda cool. To activate them you could either press the chest button to hear blasting noises and Iron Man talking. Or move the left arm up and down to light up the 'repulsor' ray and sound. Or press the right heel to activate flight sound.

FreestyleIt is really one of those action figures which was built with the word 'toy' in mind before 'collector's edition'. To display him in an acceptable manner is almost impossible. Its understandable that the makers did not want to ruin the electronics in this figure by adding to much articulation. But the hands at least could have been better.

I saw some online pictures of the same figure in Mark II suit. Available to Entertainment Earth in Feb 2009: Repulsor-Power Iron Man Mark II Movie Action Figure. That would be interesting to have now that I already own this. I admit if this figure had more articulation it would be a great figure instead of just 'nice'. With that said, it really looks super sweet displayed with my other figures.

A.R.Ms # 7: Iron Man Mark 01
Bulky and chances is weighing a ton in real life(and of course by 'real life' I mean the alternate reality all comic/action figure collectors live in). Hasbro released its movie line of the Iron Man 2008. I really wanted to get the whole line including the bad ass Iron Monger. But when you look at the Mark 02 and 03 suit...it's not really that great. Especially after our pals at the House of El announced there was an Iron Man movie replica by Hot Toys.

PricingI believe this is readily available in Brunei for like BND 20+. Although I vaguely remember only the Mark 02 & 03 was only available. Anyway, on Amazon or other sites this would USD 13 - USD 18.

I'm being honest when I say that I got this action figure because of the sculpt...and also 'cos it was a steal at AUD 12. LoL.
