A.R.Ms # 25: My Unopened Star Wars Figures

Hi guys & gals,

This week is a different review. It's more of a look into my Star Wars collection. In particular, my unopened figures. I don't have a LOT (this means I need you guys to contribute) unlike most collectors. These are not vintage either. They are more current and modern releases which have become my favorites and I just can't bear to open them.

This idea came to me recently when I had a conversation with a fellow Star Wars collector. It seems we've been "stocking" up on unopened figures. Personally for me, if my figure happened to fall into the rare category, all the better. But the main reason I don't open them is because they look really cool in their packaging.

Detail & Pricing

Princess Leia & Bossk is from the Saga Collection and comes on a vintage style card. Very classy and reminds us all of the good old days(my first ever Star Wars figure was sadly an Ewok). These were issued in 2007 and are a set of 6 figures. Other figures are Han Solo, IG-88, Luke Skywalker & Imperial Snowtrooper. These figures are around AUD 20 and worth the investment.

The 501st Stormtrooper a.k.a. Vader's Fist is a San Diego Comic Conference 2006 exclusive. But it was made available to online retailers soon after. Except they were missing the Comic Con logo on the back of the packaging. Still its a very good figure. Price starts from AUD 15.

General Grievous (The Demise of Grievous) was a Target exclusive and it was to commemorate the release of Star Wars Ep. III: Revenge of the Sith. I liked this figure because it captured the fire that consumed the General when Obi-Wan used a blaster to destroy the General. Price starts from AUD 8.

The McQuarrie Concept Series are quite unique. I'd like to get my hands on all the figures but its not that easy. Price starts from AUD 7 for the Rebel trooper and AUD 15 for the R2-D2/C3PO.

Commander Neyo of the 91st Reconnaissance Corps. I like the sculpt of this particular clone trooper. Although this Commander has an exact armour to his men(which I find it hard to see it becoming a rare figure), the packaging for this came with a collector's coin, so makes it worthwhile. Price starts from AUD 12.

The Stormtrooper Commander is one of the figures made available based on the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed game. This figure was actually free when you pre-ordered the game. It is fast becoming one of those rare figures. Thats why I'm not opening my figure. This is a bit tricky cos its not available on most online retailers. But there's always ebay. Price starts from AUD 10.

The new Clone Wars movie and series has introduced or re-introduced the clone trooper from a new perspective. The armour they use is phase 1 yet they're using the designation for different divisions as what we saw in episode III. Commander Cody is still easily available at the shops but the 501st Clone trooper is a bit difficult to find. Price starts at AUD 15.

There's nothing special about the Darth Vader figure except its Darth Vader and I thought it'd be nice to at least keep one figure in its packaging. LoL. Price starts from AUD 15.

A.R.Ms # 24: Star Wars, Clone Wars, Part 1

From the Star Wars, Animated Cone Wars 2008 movie we got to see one of several new characters introduced. Out of the planet Shili, a Togruta by the name of Ahsoka Tano became the padawan of Jedi General Anakin Skywalker.

The Clone Wars 2008 figures are relatively better than the Clone Wars that came out in 2003 . What I like when it comes to these figures are that it's spot on when it comes to the sculpt and details.

A scene from the Clone Wars 2008 movie.

Detail/Sculpt

First off is Ahsoka Tano. A new sculpt and very good in details. Definitely, on of my favorites in the Clone Wars Animated figures. The white pigmentation pattern on her face was nicely done. I didn't see any sloppy paint work(if they are it's very minor). Another thing to note is that despite the fact that her figure is petite, the amount of articulation they put in is very generous. In addition, she also gets a backpack with Rotta "Stinky" the Hut.

Anakin Skywalker. I can't complain too much about this figure. In terms of the outfit I like that the lower part of him shirt/garment is made of soft rubber and not those stiff types they used in the past figures.

They made a right decision in giving Obi-Wan a clone armor outfit. Similar to how they portrayed him in the 2003 C.W. This time around he comes with a jet-pack and helmet.

It's obvious these figures were targeted for the younger generation. By 'younger' I mean kids who take out the figures from the packaging and actually play with it. Hence the so-called additional "force powers" or firing jet-pack. Yet it still doesn't explain why they chose not to give Anakin and Obi-Wan articulated knee and ankle joints. *sigh*.

Pricing

These are current figures and widely available in the stores. Prices range from USD 9 to 15. I'm not sure if these figures are available in Brunei. So, to Bruneian readers if you have any info on this we'd like to hear from you.

The Clone Wars Animated series is now showing in the States and U.K. I'm still waiting for it to be aired in OZ.

Till next time. Keep collecting guys & gals.

A.R.Ms # 23: 501st Stormtrooper, Vader's Fist

Stormtroopers. Army of the Galactic Empire.

The very name of the Fighting 501st inspires fear across the galaxy. These elite troopers – the very best and brightest culled from the Imperial legions – serve Lord Vader in all things. They are the first on the ground in any important Imperial offensive, and the thunder of their boots is a harbinger of the doom that awaits those who would stand against the Empire.

I know the cliche' is "this is a MUST have figure". But seriously...if you're a fan. You need to HAVE this in your collection. This was a San Diego Comic Conference exclusive figure. The original packaging had "Comic Con Exclusive, San Diego 2006". Although this Stormtrooper is not featured in any of the Star Wars movies, it is part of the Star Wars Expanded Universe.

There is even a holster for the gun

Very, very cool boots...Ferragamo?

I wanted to arrange a few of these great Stormtroopers with Darth Vader in the center. But I changed my mind. So, sorry no freestyle pics this week.

Pricing

There are two versions of this figure. The SDCC exclusive figure and then there is the one I managed to get. The same figure but has a lesser value because it was issued after the SDCC. If you're interested in this figure, expect to pay around USD 15 - 30. This one is a keeper so I'm expecting the price will increase over the next few years(unless Hasbro decides to re-pack this figure, which I bet they will!)

I've lined up a few reviews on some of the Star Wars Legacy Vehicles that I have in my collection. So don't forget to follow this blog. Cheers and keep collecting!
